I skimmed through the album today and already like it better than the last two. NOLA is probably one of my top 10 favorite albums, but Down II is horrible and III is just kind of boring. This seems like a step in the right direction. Can't wait to give it a proper listen in the morning, along with the new Buckethead.

NOLA is one of my favorite albums ever, II is great and up there, but not as good as NOLA

III was boring...good, but not up to the level of the other 2

I have tried so many times to go back and find something good about Down II but I just can't. I hate that fucking album. I remember buying it the day it was released, getting pissed off at what came through my stereo, and returning it the next day. Its one of the most disappointing purchases I've ever made.

I think if I had been introduced to the band after it was released, and I had both albums to absorb together, my opinion may be different. NOLA is a classic record though, and I guess I was expecting more of the same. Down II is not classic. Or listenable.

Have you heard their live album? Fucking embarrassing.

pretty underwhelmed with this EP, about on par with III

boring, but above average music. nothing really catchy, or memorable. everything blends together and you lose track what song you're listening to.

witchtripper is the best song.

it's half an LP, dont see how it being split into two makes it more acceptable

I thought it was being split up into 4 parts?

Who cares, it's one long boring song

There's actually an interview with Phil where he says he thinks splitting the songs into four parts will help the quality, because they're only focusing on five or six at a time instead of 10-15, leaving less room for filler. His logic makes sense to me, and I personally think the EP kind of proves his point. I think this is the best thing they've done in close to 20 years.

really?? you don't like II but you like this?

this feels like the B-sides for III

I actually thought the same thing. I like most of the songs, but you're right. It feels like B-Sides.

Pretty damn good EP overall and makes me want the rest, but that's the thing that kind of gets on my nerves about this thing. They should have just released a proper full length album instead of spliting it up in four parts. And you just know those assholes will come back with some sort of vinyl release with all EP's included with extended artwork or some such bullshit.
